We see here in the midst of the lesser gods, He (Father) passes judgment on them. You cannot be in the midst of one it is a group plural Elohim, this looks like a pantheon but not. Pantheon = The term originates from the Greek word pantheion, which described a sacred building or temple dedicated to the entire group of deities in a polytheistic religion. Remember above (but not.)
Jesus and the apostles as well as the New Testament (NT from here on out) writers all knew this verse. It did not deter them or deny a theology one unique God and a trinity and a heavenly host.
So how do we articulate what we believe about God as a trinity, God as a God head and handle this verse. Because you do not want the trinity to be these gods here in the second part of this verse. We see if you keep reading this Psalm you see God say how long will you (lesser gods) judge unjustly, and show partially to the wicked. The Father wants them to give justice to the weak and fatherless maintain the right to the afflicted and the destitute, etc.
We see in verse 6 God says you are gods, sons of God the most high, never the less you (lesser gods) like men shall die for your sins.
That is not the trinity the Trinity is not corrupt. The trinity does not get a verbal reprimand and sentenced to death like these lesser gods.
We see in Psalm 89:5 the Psalmist praising God in the midst of the assembly of the sons of God His holy ones council.
Verse 6 we see they are in the skies of heaven. So they cannot be men, Jewish men, or 24 elders of Revelation.
They are created beings in the likeness of their Father, God, invisible to our realm. We must set aside our world view mis- translated texts taught by tradition and go with the authorized text the Septuagint the Greek translation of the Hebrew text.
Let us look at an example:
1Kings 22:19-23, Ahab is going to be judged, how?
1Kgs. 22:19 And Micaiah said, “Therefore hear the word of the LORD: I saw the LORD sitting on his throne, and all the host of heaven standing beside him on his right hand and on his left;
1Kgs. 22:20 and the LORD said, ‘Who will entice Ahab, that he may go up and fall at Ramoth-gilead?’ And one said one thing, and another said another.
1Kgs. 22:21 Then a spirit came forward and stood before the LORD, saying, ‘I will entice him.’
1Kgs. 22:22 And the LORD said to him, ‘By what means?’ And he said, ‘I will go out, and will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.’ And he said, ‘You are to entice him, and you shall succeed; go out and do so.’
Vs. 20, And God said, who will entice Ahab.
Vs. 21, Then a spirit (one of the council of God) came before God and said I will entice him.
Vs. 22, By what means? I will be a lying spirit in the mouth of his (false, my interjection) prophets.
The point here from me is we see the council is comprised of lesser gods doing for God the Fathers will He lets them (lesser gods) accomplish the councils edict.
Dan. 7:10, We see in the last part of the verse that the court (heavenly council) sat in judgment and the books were opened. God is King He has a council and an administration the administration has tiered levels. We see this all through the scriptures as you read your Bible (hopefully the Septuagint from now on for the Old Testament) closely.
